Failure Isn’t Final

A little while ago we were going over my son’s lessons from school and he got stuck on a few math problems as he had given the wrong answer. In his mind he felt that since he got so many wrong that he had failed. I told him he hadn’t failed he just learned. After I checked his work and identified the problems he had wrong we went over them, watched an instruction video on how to correctly do this type of math and then he redid the problems. After taking those steps he got all the problems right, well in his mind he thought because he didn’t get it right the first time that he failed.

A lot of times in life we have the same view about failure, but in my opinion failure sometimes teaches us more than success. It’s in those times of failure that we must not give up. Just think if Thomas Edison had given up after the first time he tried to make an invention from the peanut. There would be a possibility that the world would be void of his inventions today, such as the light bulb. I’m not saying it will be easy, but it’ll be worth it. It could be that one time you decide to give up, your success could be one step away. I’ve always loved the Thomas Edison quote “I have not failed. I just found 10,00 ways that didn’t work”. So don’t think of the absence of success as failure but as a way that didn’t work.

Just recently I was listening to a podcast and the guest touched on this. He talked about how he launched a community last year and it had zero sign ups. He has now recently relaunched the community and this time he got over 100 sign ups in two weeks. As one of my favorite teachers in school would say “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”. You have it in you to succeed.I believe in you!
